A sauna heater is the heart of the cabin. Get the power right and the room warms quickly and holds a steady temperature. This range runs from 4.5kW to 8kW, covering cabins of 3 to 14 cubic metres.
We stock two families. The electric heaters use aluminised zinc casings and 304 stainless steel elements. The Harvia Vega range is built in Finland in full stainless steel. Both hold loose sauna stones for heat storage and steam.
How to choose a sauna heater
Size the heater to the room, not the other way round. As a rough guide, allow 1kW for every 1.3 cubic metres of cabin space. Measure length, width and height in metres, then multiply the three figures together. A cabin of 2 x 1.5 x 2 metres is 6 cubic metres, so a 4.5kW heater fits. Oversizing a small room wastes electricity. Undersizing a large one leaves slow, weak heat. The electric and Harvia heaters both take a single-phase or three-phase supply. Three phase spreads the load on a busier or larger cabin. Stones are sold separately. Load them loosely so air passes through, then ladle water over them for steam.
| Heater | Power | Room volume | Stone capacity | Max temperature |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4.5kW Electric | 4.5kW | 3-6 m³ | 15kg | 110°C |
| 6kW Electric | 6kW | 6-9 m³ | 20kg | 110°C |
| 8kW Electric | 8kW | 9-14 m³ | 25kg | 110°C |
| Harvia Vega 4.5kW | 4.5kW | 3-6 m³ | ~20kg | 110°C |
| Harvia Vega 6kW | 6kW | 5-8 m³ | ~20kg | 110°C |
| Harvia Vega 8kW | 8kW | 8-12 m³ | ~20kg | 110°C |
A heater pairs with the right cabin. See our barrel saunas and cube saunas for traditional stone-heater builds. For a plug-in option that needs no separate heater or plumbing, browse our infrared saunas.
Common questions
Allow 1kW per 1.3 cubic metres of cabin space. Measure length, width and height in metres, then multiply them. A 6 cubic metre room suits a 4.5kW heater; a 12 cubic metre room needs 8kW.
Yes, every heater here is fixed-wired. A qualified electrician must connect it to Part P and BS 7671 standards. These heaters do not use a standard plug.
No, stones are sold separately. Load them loosely so air can pass through. The stones store heat and give off steam when you pour water over them.
The Harvia Vega is Finnish-built in full stainless steel. The electric range uses an aluminised zinc casing. Both heat the cabin the same way, through loose stones.
Every order ships with free UK delivery, and you have 30 days to return an unused heater. One point to plan for: these heaters are fixed-wired, so a qualified electrician must connect them to Part P and BS 7671.
